LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s golf team will head to San Diego, California to compete in their fourth tournament this spring at the SDSU Farms Invitational at the Farms Golf Club, March 23-25.

The Jayhawks will bring senior Minami Levonowich, junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, sophomore Pornvipa Sakdee, senior Gabriella DiMarco and freshman Kallie Gonzales. This is the first time this spring season that the Jayhawks will be competing back-to-back weeks in tournament play.

The tournament will contain a 16-team field that will include Kansas, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, UNLV, Pepperdine, Arizona State, San Diego State, California, Colorado, Houston, Long Beach State, Boise State, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and UC Irvine. The SDSU Farms Invitational will be a 72-hole match play event that will consist of the competition to play 18 holes on Monday, 36 holes on Tuesday and the final 18 holes on Wednesday.

“This tournament is very different from any other collegiate tournament we have ever played in since the format is match play for the entire event rather than stroke play.” Kansas coach Erin O’Neil said. “Match play allows you at times to play more aggressively than you normally do and can be forgiving in the sense that if you make a big number you will only be down one hole rather than three shots. In order for us to win matches we must play to our strengths and give ourselves a look at par at worse on each hole which will force our competitors to make birdies to beat us. Since we will be playing four rounds in three days staying hydrated and eating well will be very important to maintain our energy level and our focus so that we can play our best. We will also need to be mindful of our thoughts and not waste time on negativity as this will only drain our energy more and lead to poor decision making.”

The Farms Golf Club is a par-72, 6,237-yard golf course that is known for its well-designed greens, exciting tee areas and strategic hole locations. The tournament will begin Monday, March 23, as teams will be grouped based off of their Golfstat ranking for round one and then for round two, there will be a championship and consolation bracket based off of round one results. The tournament will come to a conclusion on Wednesday with a winner from both brackets. Live scoring can be found at birdiefire.com
