SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Kansas women’s golf team posted a 1-1 match play record Tuesday at the SDSU Farms Invitational at the Farms Golf Club in San Diego. KU is 1-2 in the event with all three outcomes by one point or less.

After falling to California 3-2 on Monday, KU defeated New Mexico in Tuesday’s morning match on a more-holes-won tiebreaker. The Jayhawks and Lobos were tied at 2.5-2.5, yet KU was declared the victor by winning one hole more than New Mexico overall in the 18-hole match.

In the morning round, the Jayhawks were able to get a strong performance from junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn as she defeated New Mexico’s Katerina Jaeger 4 and 3.  After winning the first hole against Jaeger, Kawinpakorn never trailed in the match.

Kansas senior Gabriella DiMarco was also able to win her match defeating New Mexico’s Eva Saulnier 3 and 2. Starting at the back nine, DiMarco trailed Saulnier by one hole after three holes but battled back and tied the match on the 13th hole. DiMarco was then able to take the lead on the next hole and hold off Saulnier for the rest of the match.

KU senior Minami Levonowich played a full 18-hole match against New Mexico’s Monon Molle as both competitors ended up all squared. Levonowich lead for the first two holes of play but Molle was able to tie it up one hole later. Molle then took the lead after the 13th hole but Levonowich was able to tie it back up six holes later on hole No. 1. Levonowich was then able to hold on for the rest of the round to conclude her match in a tie.

In other second round matches, junior Pornvipa Sakdee lost her morning match to New Mexico’s Alexandra Moisand 3 and 2 and freshman Kallie Gonzales also lost her match to New Mexico’s Ingrid Gutierrez 3 and 2.

After defeating New Mexico in the second round, Kansas faced Long Beach State in the event’s third-round match and Long Beach State defeated Kansas 3-1.

DiMarco won her third-straight match defeating Long Beach State’s Shawnee Martinez 5 and 4. DiMarco never trailed against Martinez as she jumped out to a lead after the first hole.

Kawinpakorn fell to LBSU’s Savannah Knox 4 and 2, while Sakdee lost to LBSU’s Kassidy Teare 4 and 3 and Gonzales came up short to LBSU’s Chaewon Park 2-up. Levonowich and LBSU’s Janelle Sua results for the third round did not count because of not completing their round due to darkness.
