LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 40th-ranked Kansas women’s golf team will return to action as the Jayhawks travel to Dallas, Texas, to compete in the DAC/SMU Invitational at the Dallas Athletic Club, April 4-6.

Kansas has placed in the top 10 of every event in 2013-14, including two tournament titles. KU is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational (March 24-25) in John Island, S.C., which followed a third-place outcome at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate (March 14-16) in Augusta, Ga.

The Jayhawks will be represented by the same five players for the seventh-straight tournament. Those competitors include freshman Pornvipa “Faii” Sakdee, sophomore Yupaporn “Mook” Kawinpakorn, junior Minami Levonowich and seniors Meghan Potee and Thanuttra “Fhong” Boonraksasat.

Faii looks to continue to improve her game as she is hoping to add another top-20 finish to freshman campaign. Faii currently sits in third on the team with four top-20 finishes while averaging 75.96 strokes per round.

As Fhong’s career as a Jayhawk is coming to a close she is chasing history in a few different categories. Fhong is currently sitting in third in KU career top-10 finishes with 12, one behind second-place Emily Powers (2007-10). Fhong is also is on pace this season to set the all-time season-low scoring average for a Jayhawk as she currently averages 75.13 strokes per round. That task won’t be an easy one as teammate Mook set the record with a 75.4 average in 2012-13 and is currently averaging 74.83 strokes per round this year. Mook is also hunting too move up the Kansas leaderboard in career top-five finishes where she can move into a tie for fourth with Amanda Costner (2004-07) and Sue Pekar (1985-88) with a strong score this weekend.

Levonowich looks to contribute to the Jayhawks effort as she searching for her fifth top-20 finish of the season, and first of the spring season. Levonowich currently averages 77.63 strokes per round.

Rounding out the Jayhawks is Potee who enters the weekend averaging 76.52 strokes per round in 2013-14.

The SMU Invitational will be played on a 6,264-yard, par-72 course at the Dallas Athletic Club. The 16-team field, hosted by SMU will give the Jayhawks a small preview of the Big 12 Championship as Kansas will be squaring off with conference opponents Baylor, Kansas State, 14th-ranked Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech.
Other teams include Iowa, 33rd-ranked Kent State, 20th-ranked LSU, Nebraska, 27th-ranked North Carolina, North Texas, Purdue, UT San Antonio, and 19th-ranked Wake Forest.

The tournament will be played over three days where the competitors will see 18 holes on Friday April 4, Saturday April 5, and Sunday April 6. The competitors are set to tee off at 8 a.m. on Friday.
