SAN ANTONIO – Kansas junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn and sophomore Pornvipa Sakdee are both tied for second place with a score of 142 (-2) after two rounds at the 2015 Big 12 Women’s Golf  Championship at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. As a team, KU is in eighth place with a two-round 602 (+26), carding a 301 (+13) for the second straight day on Saturday.

Kawinpakorn lead the 45-golfer field in Saturday’s second round with 3-under 69 which included four birdies. She improved four strokes from her first-round performance of 73 (+1) on Friday. Sakdee set the Big 12 opening-round record with a 68 (-4) Friday, ended second round with a 74 (+2).

KU senior Minami Levonowich shot a 76 (+4) Saturday, which was a five-stroke improvement from her Friday score of 81. She is tied for 41st with an overall score of 157 (+13). Senior Gabriella DiMarco carded an 82 (+10) Saturday and is in 44th place at 161 (+17), while freshman Pitsinee Winyarat shot an 86 (+14) in her second round and is currently in 45th with a two-round score of 169 (+25).

“The pins were in some tricky spots today and we need to do a better job of giving ourselves an uphill putt rather than a breaking downhill putt,” Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil said. “Those are difficult to make consistently during a round. Mook (Kawinpakorn) had a great round today. She was patient and put herself in good position to make par or better each hole. Faii (Sakdee) had it going on the front nine but gave a few shots away on the back. They are both in great position going into tomorrow to win if they play committed golf.”

Oklahoma State’s Kenzie Neisen leads Kawinpakorn and Sakdee by three strokes with a score of 139 (-5). Baylor’s Laura Lonardi is also tied for second with the Jayhawk duo.

Baylor leads the championship by 10 strokes with a score of 573 (-3). Texas Tech is in second place at 583 (+7) and Oklahoma State is third at 584 (+8).  Kansas sits in eighth and trails seventh-place Oklahoma by five strokes as the Sooners are at 597 (+21).

The Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship will conclude Sunday, April 26, with the final 18-holes of the event. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com
