STILLWATER, Okla. – Kansas sophomore Yupaporn “Mook” Kawinpakorn is in a tie for 25th, after firing a first round 75 (+3), at the 2014 Women’s Golf NCAA Central Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club Thursday.

As a team, No. 40 Kansas sits in a tie for 16th with a first round 309 (+21) in the three-round event. The Jayhawks are tied with Arkansas, Texas and LSU. No. 9 Alabama and No. 35 California are tied for first with a 7-over par, 295. Florida and Kent State are both one stroke back at 296 (+8) on the par-72 course.

Kansas junior Minami Levonowich and freshman Pornvipa “Faii” Sakdee both carded a first round 77 (+5). Levonowich struggled on the front nine as she shot a 4-over par, but found her groove as she carded a 1-over par on the back nine. Faii has the same story as she shot a front nine 4-over par while shooting a 1-over par on the back. Levonowich and Faii both currently sit in a tie for 55th in the 126-player field.

KU senior Meghan Potee added her score to the teams total as she carded an 18-hole total of 80 (+8). Potee currently sits in a tie for 84th.

Rounding out the Jayhawk five is senior Thanuttra “Fhong” Boonraksasat who ended her first round with an 81 (+9), placing her in a tie for 90th. Fhong struggled early but found her groove on the back nine where she went 3-over par after.

The NCAA Central Region will continue with 18 holes, Friday, May 9, and conclude with 18 final holes on Saturday, May 10. On Saturday, Kansas will be paired with Texas and Kent State for the second straight round and will tee off at 7:30 a.m. The 24 teams are vying to finish in the top eight to advance to the NCAA Championship at the Tulsa Country Club May 21-23. KU is 10 shots from the eighth spot heading into Friday’s second round.
