Levonowich Fires Even Par at Q School

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Former KU women’s golfer Minami Levonowich shot an even-par 72 Thursday on the Palmer Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California in her first round of Stage I of the LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying School.
 
Playing as an amateur, Levonowich is tied for 31st in a field of 288 golfers attempting to qualify for the women’s professional tours. The field will continue its second round of four, 72 holes total, on Friday with the top 60 finishers from Stage I advancing to Stage II which will be held in Venice, Florida, Oct. 25-27. Stage III, the final stage, will be played in early December in Daytona Beach, Florida.
 
A two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree from Houston, Levonowich qualified for the Q school by maintaining at 4.0 or less handicap on courses measuring at least 6,200 yards.
 
As a senior in 2014-15, Levonowich was third on the KU team with a 76.6 scoring average per 18 holes. The Houston native posted five top 10 finishes during her KU career and was an instrumental part of Kansas’ 2013-14 season in which the Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA Championship.
