GREENVILLE, S.C. – After a pair of 1-over 73s from senior Minami Levonowich and junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, the Kansas women’s golf team sits tied for fourth  after completing two rounds at the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course Monday.

KU shot a second-round 298 (+7) Monday and the Jayhawks have a two-round score of 587 (+11) and are tied with Florida State for fourth. Furman, the host of the tournament, leads the 18-team field by nine strokes with a score of 574 (-2). Texas Tech and Wake Forest are tied for second with a score of 583 (+7), four shots ahead of KU.

“Today didn’t go as well as we would have liked, however, we finished well overall and we are within four shots of second, which is very doable,” KU head coach Erin O’Neil said.

Levonowich has been consistent through her two days at the Lady Paladin after shooting a 74 (+2) Sunday and a 73 (+1) Monday. She currently sits tied for 14th with a score of 147 (+3). Sophomore Pornvipa Sakdee had her lowest career round Sunday, carding a 68 (-4). On Monday, Sakdee shot a 79 (+7) and is tied with Levonowich at 147 (+3).

Kawinpakorn shot a 75 (+3) Sunday and currently sits tied for 20th with a score of 148 (+4) in the 96-golfer field. KU senior Gabriella DiMarco, who led the Jayhawks last week at the Minnesota Invitational, concluded her round Monday with a 78 (+6) and is tied for 33rd with a 150 (+6). Senior Michelle Woods improved by 10 strokes from her first round, finishing with a 74 (+2) and is tied for 72nd with a 158 (+14). Junior Mackenzie Thayer, who is playing as an individual, ended her second round with an 80 (+8). Thayer is tied with Woods for 72nd at 158 (+14).

“Mook (Kawinpakorn), Mini (Levonowich) and Michelle (Woods) had solid rounds for us today,” O’Neil said. “The biggest difference between yesterday and today is our birdie putts didn’t drop. Hopefully we can get the putters hot tomorrow and move up the leaderboard.”

The third and final round of the Lady Paladin Invitational concludes Tuesday, September 23rd. The Jayhawks will look to move up to the top three for the third consecutive week in a row.
