KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Another slice of Kansas history is once again within grasp for senior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn. With 18 holes to be played at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, she is tied for third in the 122-golfer field with Giulia Vandenberg of Stetson and Dulcie Sverdloff of Kennesaw State and trails leader Haylee Harford of Furman by four strokes. A top-five finish will give Kawinpakorn a KU-record 14 career top-five finishes, beating out Holly Reynolds’ longstanding record.
 
Kansas sits ninth out of 20 teams, a stroke behind Coastal Carolina and Augusta University and a stroke ahead of Xavier and the College of Charleston. Tournament leader Furman is 23 strokes in front of KU. The par-72, 5,972-yard Turtle Point Golf Course proved to be a formidable challenge Monday, with only three teams improving upon their first-round scores.
 
Senior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn paced the Jayhawks with a 73 (+1) Monday, giving her a total score of 143 (-1). KU freshmen Laine Evans and Ariadna Fonseca Diaz both shot 77 (+5) Monday. Overall, Evans is tied for 40th and Fonseca Diaz is tied for 44th in the 102-golfer field. Sophomores Pitsinee Winyarat and Kallie Gonzales shot a 79 and 84, respectively. Winyarat is tied for 60th and Gonzales is 96th.
