Globe-Trotting Jayhawks: Chayla Cheadle

From Aug. 8-18, the Kansas women’s basketball team and staff will embark on a 10-day foreign tour through France and Switzerland, as the Jayhawks aim to build team chemistry and grow together on and off the hardwood. Throughout the tour, which includes four games, a different player on KU’s 2016-17 roster will share what the team was up to each day while abroad.

Day 5 – Paris, France

Bonjour!

Although yesterday started off a little slow considering the three-hour adventure my group had during the Amazing Race that turned into a shopping spree because we got lost, today has been much better!

To start, it’s such a beautiful day out, the sun is out and shining, it’s been one of our warmer days since we’ve been here. Plus, we just got another win to make us 2-0 against the AMW All-Stars. So far things have been great from the basketball side of things. I am really excited about the upcoming season based on our first two performances on the foreign tour. Playing hard, playing together and having fun, we’ve done it all.

As we got to enjoy our last night in Paris, we adventured out to the long strip of stores in the city. We dressed up a bit, finally getting out of our basketball jerseys, our journey had really begun.

First stop, Starbucks! Can’t go wrong with a little coffee in our system. Next, we hit the Metro… Of course, we got a ton of stares, I guess it’s not as common to have a group of young ladies six-feet or taller walking around trying to catch the subway. Not bothered by the stares, we laughed, danced and even broke out in song and sang some songs from the Cheetah Girls movie.

After getting in a little shopping and picking up souvenirs before the shops closed, we made our way to the Louvre in a taxi, which was my first time experiencing a taxi ride. We pulled up to the huge pyramid and walked around to take pictures and take in the history.

So far, the trip has been amazing and Paris definitely treated us right, but now it’s off to Montreux, Switzerland in the morning.

Rock Chalk!

Junior Chayla Cheadle notched 15 points behind a pair of treys. Sophomores McKenzie Calvert and Kylee Kopatich rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Sophomore Chelsea Lott came off the bench to lead Kansas on the glass with five rebounds. Calvert, Cheadle and Tyler Johnson each grabbed three boards while senior Caelynn Manning-Allen brought down four rebounds.
