Jayhawks host Media Day in Allen Fieldhouse

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following the kickoff of basketball season last Friday at Late Night in the Phog, Kansas women’s basketball welcomed members of the media into Allen Fieldhouse for its annual media day on Wednesday afternoon.

The day began with head coach Brandon Schneider addressing reporters in the Allen Fieldhouse media room.

“For us, in year four, our expectations and goals are different than they have been the previous three seasons,” Schneider said. “We’re excited to get to work and see progress each and every day to achieve some of those things.”Senior Jessica Washington

Following the opening session with Schneider, who enters his fourth season as Kansas’ head coach in 2018-19, the media met with the 15 members of the Jayhawks’ team on James Naismith court.

“Our transfers and our freshmen fit right in and I think they will bring a lot to our program,” sophomore center Bailey Helgren said. “I think we have a lot of versatility and a lot of people who can do everything. I am just looking forward into putting that all together.”

The Jayhawks return 11 players from last season’s team and welcome four newcomers in freshmen guards Aniya Thomas and Brooklyn Mitchell and junior college transfers Mariane De Carvalho and Niccolly Ramalho.
 
In addition, Kansas returns the 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and a 2017 All-Big 12 second-team selection, senior guard Jessica Washington, as well as an 2018 All-Big 12 honorable mention honoree, senior guard Christalah Lyons.

Tickets are now on sale for $109 for a full season of women’s basketball action in Allen Fieldhouse. Senior Citizen Reserved season tickets can be purchased for $80, while K Club Reserved season tickets are available at $75.

New for the 2018-19 season, Kansas Athletics is introducing the Rock Chalk Card, which includes general admission to all home women’s basketball, soccer, softball and baseball games for $175. The Rock Chalk Card and a women’s basketball reserved seat upgrade can be purchased for $225.
