Jayhawks welcome reporters to Allen Fieldhouse

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With the excitement of Late Night in the Phog still buzzing around Kansas’ campus, the KU women’s basketball program welcomed members of the media to Allen Fieldhouse for its annual media day on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The afternoon kicked off with head coach Brandon Schneider addressing reporters in the media room in Allen Fieldhouse at his preseason press conference.

“I feel like we had a really good summer,” Schneider said. “As I said the other night at Late Night, we’ve overhauled our roster and I feel like we’re in the midst of making some major changes from a cultural standpoint. We’ve added two junior college players that played for the national championship, we have high school players that were either conference or state champions and we have two other junior college players that were either conference or regional champions. (We’re) just trying to bring in kids that are accustomed to winning and they have a very low tolerance for anything short of that.”Senior Guard Jessica Washington

Following the 15-minute session with Schneider, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Kansas women’s basketball program, the media ventured onto James Naismith Court for a chance to meet all 14 members of KU’s roster.

“I would say with this being his (Coach Brandon’s) third year as the head coach here at Kansas, he’s been trying to develop this culture,” said senior guard Jessica Washington. “We’ve been building on for the last three years, it’s just something we’ve been working on and developing and really is a major key for us.”

Kansas returns seven letterwinners from the 2016-17 campaign and added seven newcomers during the offseason. Among the returning players is Washington, who was named the 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and led the league in scoring with 19.3 points per game.

Season tickets are now on sale at just $80 for a full season of women’s basketball action in Allen Fieldhouse. Family Zone tickets are also available and include two adult and two youth tickets to every home game for only $180.

The season gets underway with exhibition games in Allen Fieldhouse against Emporia State (10/29) and Pittsburg State (11/5).
