KU women’s hoops host holiday clinic

PHOTO GALLERY | LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s basketball program celebrated the end of 2016 with its annual Holiday Hoops Clinic on Friday afternoon inside Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks and over 100 of their biggest fans filled the historic gym with fun, laughter and, of course, tons of basketball.

“I love children and love being around them,” said senior forward Caelynn Manning-Allen. “It’s such a great opportunity for them to come be a Jayhawk for a day. A lot of these kids bleed KU and the loyalty we get from the kids and their parents means a lot to us.”

Children from kindergarten through eighth grade participated in the yearly clinic that includes all sorts of basketball drills with current Jayhawks and the KU coaching staff. The young basketball players, along with some parents, rotated through seven stations that focused on different skills.

The two-hour clinic concluded with an autograph session and photographs with the Kansas players and coaches. Each participant received a voucher to attend a KU women’s basketball game later on this season.

“The holiday clinic is a chance for us to meet new fans and reconnect with some of the old campers,” said redshirt sophomore guard McKenzie Calvert. “It’s nice to be out here and spend time with the community. The kids may not know how historic Allen Fieldhouse is, but hanging out with the team is what they really enjoy.”

Kansas travels to Baylor on Sunday, Jan. 1, for its first Big 12 Conference road game of the season and first game of the New Year. Tipoff against the Lady Bears is set for 2 p.m., on Fox Sports Southwest and the Jayhawk Radio Network.
