Lyons tabbed All-Big 12 Honorable Mention

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior guard Christalah Lyons earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors for her efforts on the hardwood during her first season with the Jayhawks, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

In her first season donning the Crimson and Blue, Lyons becomes the second Jayhawk to earn all-conference honors under third-year head coach Brandon Schneider. Senior guard Jessica Washington was named 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned all-league second team accolades.

Lyons started all 18 games in league play in 2018 and averaged 35.2 minutes, the most by a Jayhawk this season during conference action. The Dallas, Texas native led Kansas in scoring with 15.1 points per Big 12 game and led the backcourt with a 42.4 shooting percentage from the field.

The point guard has netted double figures in 26 of KU’s 29 games this season, including 16 Big 12 contests. Two of her three 20-point performances came during conference play, including a 21-point effort on the road against Oklahoma State (2/3). From the free throw line, Lyons has connected on a team-best 72.7 percent of her attempts.

Additionally, Lyons recorded a team-best 46 assists, while grabbing 57 boards and swiping 17 steals during the 2018 Big 12 slate. Overall, Lyons is the 40th Jayhawk to earn All-Big 12 honors since the league’s inception in 1997.
