PEORIA, Ariz. – Kansas sophomore Chomchana Phuchanbanchob led Kansas through 36-holes on day one at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Phuchanbanchob shot five birdies and two bogies, leaving her 3-under in round one. After shooting 1-under in round two, Phuchanbanchob is 4-under and will enter the final round tied for eighth place.

“Cake had a great day (Monday),” said head coach Erin O”Neil. “We are so proud of the progress she’s made with all parts of her game. (Tuesday) she needs to keep the same mindset and trust herself.

The Jayhawks, as a team, remained even after rounds one and two, shooting a season-low 288 in both rounds. Kansas stands in 10th going into the final round Monday.

Junior Ariadna Fonseca Diaz, over two rounds matched the course and ended the day at even par. Fonseca Diaz shot a 2-over in round one, but heated up in round two where she carded three birdies and just one bogie to finish with a 2-under. Fonseca Diaz will enter the final round in a tie for 36th place.

“Ari had a good come back in the afternoon after shooting over par in the first round,” said O’Neil. “She kept a level head and finished strong which is always great to see.”

Victoria Chandra ended the day 1-over after two rounds and is in a tie for 44th. Sophomore Xinyun Yu finished 3-over and sits in a tie for 54th. Rounding out the leaderboard, sophomore Yi-Tsen Chou wrapped up the two rounds at 8-over and is tied for 76th.

As an individual, Kallie Gonzales finished 5-over and is currently in a tie for 62nd in her first competition of the spring season.

“To move up the leaderboard we don’t need to do anything fancy or over the top,” said O’Neil. “We just need to refocus on our process, on what’s really in our control and commit to doing that for each shot.”

The final round will begin Monday at 8:30 a.m., MT.
