Chou wins YTS & Sun City Heritage Tour

LAWRENCE, Kan. –  Kansas women’s golf junior Yi-Tsen Chou ended her summer with a bang as she finished the 36-hole YTS & Sun City Heritage Tour in first place at the Sun City Golf Club in Taiwan on August 8.

Playing as an amateur in the pro tournament, Chou paced herself in the first round as she registered a 2-under-par 70 with five birdies and three bogeys. She parred on the par-3 12th hole which put her at a 70 for the day in the 103-person field. In the final round, she parred the final two holes to finish with a score of 75 and a combined score of 145 for the tournament, putting her atop the leader board.

The Heritage Tour is organized by the Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association (TLPGA) in which TLPGA pros are grouped with amateur and junior golfers. Chou previously competed in three tournaments in July, two of which were on the ICTSI Champion Tour in the Philippines. She finished tied for 16th in the ICTSI Southwoods Tournament, shooting a score of 72. Chou also previously won the Yegander Amateur Classic and was the top amateur at the Kaohsiung Golf Heritage Tour last summer in her hometown of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

At Kansas, she became the first freshman to finish in the top-10 at the Big 12 Championship since Yupaporn Kawinpakorn tied for 10th at the 2013 event. She also recorded a top-five finish for the first time in her career in her sophomore campaign after shooting 8-over 224 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational last October.
