Fonseca Diaz and Chandra take home Academic All-Big 12 Honors
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Kansas women’s golfers Ariadna Fonseca Diaz and Victoria Chandra were named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
“I am very proud of Ari and Victoria,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “It is difficult to maintain a high GPA while competing during the season and it is great to see their efforts pay off.”
This is Fonseca Diaz’s second Academic All-Big 12 honor of her career. As a freshman, she was named to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie team.
Since the Big 12 Conference began in 1996-97, Kansas has had a total of 67 women’s golf Academic All-Big 12 honorees. O’Neil has had 44 of those selections in her 13 seasons at KU.
On this year’s Academic All-Big 12 team, there were 36 women’s golf selections, 34 of which were named to the first team.
To qualify for the first team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA, and have participated in 60 percent of the team’s scheduled contests.
Kansas will head to San Antonio, Texas April 21-23 to compete in the Big 12 Championship at the Dominion Country Club.
