Fonseca Diaz second after first day of Orlando Amateur
ORLANDO, Fla. – Kansas sophomore Ariadna Fonseca Diaz fired a two-under 70 on the first day of the Orlando International Amateur Championship Wednesday and stands in second place in the event held at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge.
The annual 54-hole event continues Thursday, with the final round slated for Friday, December 30th. Fonseca Diaz, who hails from Caracas, Venezuela, trained at the Westwood Golf Academy in Orlando after moving to the United States in 2013.
Over the first round, Fonseca Diaz played one-over-par the first nine holes, but shot 3-under on the back nine, and only trails the leader, Jessica Porvasnik, by two strokes.
