Kansas returns to Westbrook Spring Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas will return to the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona February 25. The tournament consists of three rounds of play over the course of two days at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

“The course is a fun layout to play,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “It’s very straight forward with lots of opportunities for birdies but still requires smart decisions to shoot a great score.”

Kansas will be led by Yi-Tsen Chou, Ariadna Fonseca Diaz, Chomchana Phuchanbanchob, Victoria Chandra and Xinyun Yu. Kallie Gonzales will make her spring season debut, competing as an individual. Each player in the lineup competed in last year’s event, which brings more experience to the course.

The Jayhawks competed in the Westbrook Invitational last year and finished tied for second in the event. Diaz placed in the top-5 and Phuchanbanchob finished in the top-10.

“Everyone in the lineup has played here which is typically a positive thing,” said O’Neil. “We have good memories of being here and should be very familiar with the course.”

Kansas will face off against 14 other teams and two Big-12 opponents in Kansas State and No. 17 Oklahoma.

“It’s a new year playing in this event and therefore, we need to go in with a clean mindset, focusing on being disciplined in both our decisions and in our mental attitude.” said O’Neil

Kansas will play 36 holes on February 25 starting at 8:30 a.m.
