Big scores plague day one at Liz Murphey Collegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – After a long 36-hole day at the Liz Murphey Collegiate, Kansas is sitting in 12th place. As a team, the Jayhawks shot 32-over (320) in round one and 28-over (216) in round two to finish day one 60-over.
Playing as an individual, Xinyun Yu led the pack for Kansas, shooting just 5-over in the first round thanks to three birdies on holes No. 4, 11 and 15. In round two, Yu shot 8-over to end day one in a tie for 48th.
Fellow Jayhawks, Sera Tadokoro and Ariadna Fonseca Diaz sit just one stroke behind Yu and are both tied for 53rd.
Senior Kallie Gonzales was just 4-over after the first 18-holes but struggled in round two and could not regroup. Gonzales is now 16-over and is in 59th place.
Sophomore Yi-Tsen Chou shot 11-over in round one and did not manage to shoot a single birdie. However, managed to find her groove in the beginning of round two when she shot back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and 3 and another on No. 5. Chou will enter the final round in a three-way tie for 63rd.
After having a strong spring season, Chomchana Phuchanbanchob had an uncharacteristic day completing round one 21-over. Phuchanbanchob sits in a tie for 66th.
The Jayhawks will return to play Saturday morning with an 7:30 a.m. (CT) start.
