Kansas travels to Baton Rouge for LSU Tiger Golf Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s golf hits the road again this weekend when the Jayhawks play in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Friday through Sunday.

LSU will host 10 teams in the par-72 tournament that will play at 6,266 yards. KU is amongst a solid field including Tulane, Campbell, TCU, UTSA, UT Chattanooga, Mercer, South Alabama, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and Old Dominion.

Kansas’ lineup features junior Yi-Tsen Chou in the leadoff spot, freshman Pear Pooratanaopa, sophomore Sera Tadokoro, senior Chomchana “Cake” Phuchanbanchob followed by sophomore Aristelle Acuff with junior Xinyun Yu rounding out the lineup as an individual.

“We’ve been really working on our short game, chipping and putting,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “We’ve been trying to get better at that. I think that’s where we will be able to make up the most shots in the shortest amount of time. We’re also working on course management and working more on the mental side of the game.”

Chou, who has led KU in scoring in four of seven tournaments this season, tops the Jayhawk lineup with a 73.43 stroke average. She placed 10th at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in KU’s last outing and has previous experience playing in the LSU Golf Classic in the 2016-17 season where the Jayhawks finished 11th.

“Yi-Tsen’s played the course before and I think we have some good ball strikers which will be the most important thing for us,” O’Neil said. “I think the most important thing for this course is to put yourself in the right spots. It’s a course that’s hosted regionals before so you have to be able to hit it where you want it.”

First and second round pairings and tee times are TBD, while the final round will conclude with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m, Sunday.
