Kawinpakorn Named Academic All-Big 12 First Team

IRVING, Texas – Senior Kansas women’s golfer Yupaporn Kawinpakorn was named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference office announced Thursday. This marks Kawinpakorn’s third consecutive Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor.

There were 27 women’s golf academic all-league student-athletes named to the 2016 team with 21 first team members and six on the second squad.

Since the Big 12 Conference began in 1996-97, Kansas has had a total of 65 women’s golf Academic All-Big 12 honorees. Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil has had 42 of those selections in her 12 seasons at KU.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

First-team members consist of those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Kansas will next head to San Antonio, Texas, for the Big 12 Conference Championship, April 22-24, at the Dominion Country Club. Last year, KU finished eighth at the conference tourney and Kawinpakorn tied for fifth earning Big 12 All-Tournament honors for the third-straight year.
