KU alumna Levonowich to play in LPGA event

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas golfer Minami Levonowich has received a sponsorship exemption to play in the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout in El Dorado, Arkansas, September 30-October 2. The Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout is a stop on the LPGA Symetra Tour and will be played at the Mystic Creek Golf Club.

“It’s great for our program to have another alumna competing at the professional level,” Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil said. “It shows our recruits that we have the resources at KU to help them improve their games and achieve their dreams of playing golf at the highest level.”

Levonowich played for the Jayhawks from 2013-15 after transferring from Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Georgia. She was born in London, England, but calls Houston, Texas her home. Her best year as a Jayhawk was her junior year when she competed in all 13 events, finishing in the top-10 twice.

During her junior year in 2013-14, Levonowich competed in the NCAA Regional, where she finished in the top-20 and the NCAA Championship match, where, in the second round, she recorded a career-low score of 71. During her Jayhawk career, she was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.

“Playing in this event is a great opportunity for Minami to gain more experience playing at the next level,” O’Neil said. “She’s been working hard on her game and I know she is excited to get out there and compete.”

According to the tour website, “the mission of the Symetra Tour is to prepare the world’s best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour.” More than 600 LPGA tour golfers have played on the Symetra Tour. Symetra alumnae have won 418 LPGA tournaments and 39 majors.
