KU signee qualifies for two world junior golf championships
NAKHON NAYOK, Thailand – Kansas women’s golf 2018 signee Phisitkhwan Pooratanaopa scored a six-stroke victory at the TGA-SINGHA Junior Championship April 8, at the Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa and as a result qualified for two of the top world junior golf championships to be held this summer.
Nicknamed “Pear,” Pooratanaopa was the only competitor under par in the field of 29 at the TGA-SIGNGA Junior Championship event. After an opening round 5-under, 66, Pooratanaopa never looked back. She added a 2-over, 73 in the second round, and a 4-over 75 in the third, before finishing with a 2-under 69 in the fourth and final round.
“We are very excited for Pear,” said Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil. “She had a great event, and there’s no doubt she will have an immediate impact on our team next year.”
With the victory, Pooratanaopa automatically qualified for the 2018 FCG Callaway World Championship and the IMG Junior World Golf Championship. The 10th annual FCG Callaway World Championship will be held July 16-18, on nine championship golf courses in Palm Desert, California.
The IMG Junior World Golf Championship will occur the week prior, July 10-13, at Torrey Pines North in La Jolla, California.
