KU signee wins KWGA Optimist Junior Qualifier

EMPORIA, Kan. – Incoming Kansas freshman Abby Glynn, a product of Washburn Rural High School, collected an 8-stroke victory over the field of the Kansas Women’s Golf Association (KWGA) Girls Kickoff and Girls Optimist Junior Qualifier event Friday at the Emporia Golf Course.

After being the only individual to shoot under par in the first of the two rounds of play, Glenn used her 2-under 70 to cruise to the victory. In the first round, Glynn played the front nine even and then posted a pair of birdies on the back to finish 2-under with a 5-stroke lead over the field.

“Abby has been working very diligently on her game for the last two years and it’s all starting to pay off,” Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil said. “She’s been competing a lot this spring and has gained a lot of confidence. We are very proud of her efforts and excited about her future as a Jayhawk.”

Glynn sealed the win with a 2-over 74 to finish the 36-hole event at even par. After carding a double bogey on the first hole, Glynn played even the remainder of the round. Her 70 and 74 were the two-best rounds scored at the event.

With the victory, Glynn qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida from July 27 through August 1.
