TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Yi-Tsen Chou led Kansas through round two of the MountainView Collegiate shooting 1-under to place her in a three-way tie for first going into the final round Sunday. As a team, the Jayhawks shot 8-over (296) and are holding onto a first-place lead by two strokes.

“We started off really well Saturday, very steady for everyone,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “The wind picked up on our 12th hole and made our finish tougher since it was gusting 30-40 miles per hour. We hung in there and didn’t give too many shots away fortunately.”

After shooting even in the first round, Chou had another consistent round on day two carding a birdie on No. 1 and 9 as well as a bogey on No. 2 to finish 1-under on the front nine. Chou finished even through the back nine after carding a bogey on No.11 and a birdie on No. 15.

“Yi-Tsen played great,” said O’Neil. “She was very focused on the process of each shot and did a good job of staying in the moment. She’s been working on her swing and is starting to see flight which helped in the windy conditions.”

Sera Tadokoro finished day one of the MoutainView Collegiate shooting an impressive 3-under (68) on Friday to put her in the lead, but after carding a 5-over Saturday, the freshman from Osaka, Japan, has fallen back to eighth place.

Ariadna Fonseca Diaz shot 3-over in both rounds and is currently in a tie for 22nd. Diaz is followed by Chomchana Phuchanbanchob who had a consistent day for the Jayhawks, shooting 1-over to leave her in a tie for 29th going into the final round.

Lastly, Xinyun Yu finished 5-over in round two and is tied for 58th. As an individual, Kallie Gonzales shot 7-over and is tied for 47th.
“We are only in the lead by two strokes, which isn’t much with another round to play,” admitted O’Neil. “We need to treat tomorrow as a clean slate and not get ahead of ourselves while we are out there.”

Kansas will return to play Sunday morning with an 8 a.m. (MT) shotgun start. Live scoring is available through birdiefire.com.
