Kansas Rowing Prepares For Spring Schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a week worth of training in Tampa, the Kansas Rowing team is back in Lawrence prepping for the spring season.

“Tampa was a lot of training, improvement and technical teaching,” said Catloth. “We put in a lot of miles and had a lot of success in achieving those goals. It gives our rowers a little more knowledge and ability to work with going into the season of how to row, how to train, how to perform and push themselves.”

Kansas will open its spring schedule on March 14, when the Jayhawks travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee to participate in the Louisville Invitational. The Jayhawks will look to build on last year’s success as KU had three boats place first at the regatta. The Louisville Invitational is known as one of the toughest regattas in the nation and features defending American Athletic Conference Champion, Louisville.

“It’s a very tough regatta and there will be a few top-20 and even top-10 teams there,” Catloth explained. “More than anything it’s just a challenge. It’s a way to go out, and start the season and find out how much speed you have early in the year.”

The Jayhawks will then face off with Drake on March 28 in Lawrence for a scrimmage. Back in action on April 4, Kansas will head to Dallas, Texas to square off with American Athletic Conference foe SMU. KU will end April with two major regattas. First, Kansas will head to West Windsor, New Jersey, to compete in the Knecht Cup (April 11-12). The second will be the Big 12 and Big Ten double dual on April 25 in Kansas City.  The double dual will feature national power Wisconsin, as well as, Iowa and Oklahoma. It’ll be a great test for not only KU, but the Big 12.

Kansas will end the regular-season portion of the spring slate on May 2. The Jayhawks will host Kansas State in the annual Kansas Cup at the Sunflower Showdown in Wyandotte County Lake.

The Big 12 Championship will take place on May 17 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Other Big 12 opponents include Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia as well as additions Alabama, Old Dominion and Tennessee.
