KU Soccer to Host FCKC in Spring Exhibition Action Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer will open its 2014 spring exhibition season when the Jayhawks welcome FC Kansas City for a 1 p.m. match in Lawrence on Saturday, March 29. The game will be held at Kansas’ training facility, formerly the Jayhawk Soccer Complex, with admission free to the public.

The Jayhawks will take on an FC Kansas City team that finished second in the National Women’s Soccer Team’s standings and advanced to the semifinals of the playoffs a year ago. KU and FCKC met last spring, also in exhibition play, with the pros coming out on top, 4-0.

The game will be the first of five exhibitions Kansas will take part in this spring. KU will play host to Big Ten foe Iowa (15-7-1 in 2013) on April 5. The match with the Hawkeyes will begin at 1 p.m., also at the Jayhawk Training Facility. On Monday, April 21, Kansas will again welcome FC Kansas City, however it will be FCKC’s reserve team that KU will go head-to-head with. That game is slated to begin at 5 p.m., also in Lawrence.

One of the Jayhawks’ spring matches is still to be determined. The date and time of that game will be announced at a later date.

Kansas finished the 2013 season at 7-11-2 and 2-5-1 in Big 12 play before falling to West Virginia in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship.
