KU Soccer to Open Spring Season in Iowa Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer will open its 2015 spring exhibition season when the Jayhawks take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, March 28. The Jayhawks and Hawkeyes will square off in Ames, Iowa inside the Cyclone Spots Complex at 11:30 a.m.

The Jayhawks will go head-to-head with a Hawkeye team that finished with a record of 14-8-1 and placed fifth in the Big Ten standings during its 2014 regular season. KU and Iowa met last spring in Lawrence, also in exhibition play, with the Hawkeyes coming out on top, 2-0.

The match will be the first of five exhibitions Kansas will take part in this spring. KU will play host to the 2014 champions of the National Women’s Soccer League, FC Kansas City, on Tuesday, March 31. The match with FCKC will begin at 7 p.m., at Rock Chalk Park. Later in the week, Kansas will return to the pitch at Rock Chalk Park to take on the Drake Bulldogs on Friday, April 3. That game is also slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Following a road trip to take on Tulsa on Saturday, April 18, KU will return home a week later to close out its spring season with a visit from the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday, April 25. Kickoff from Rock Chalk Park is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Kansas is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history. KU finished 15-6-0 after reeling off a team-record eight-consecutive wins to start the year. Kansas tallied a 5-3-0 record in Big 12 play to finish third in the conference. The Jayhawks earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they eventually fell to the Missouri Tigers in the First Round.
