KU’s Gagnet Called Back to French U20 National Team Camp

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer freshman Aurélie Gagnet has been invited to train at the U-20 French National Team Camp. The Montpellier, France native will look to make the final roster of 21 that will compete at the U20 Women’s World Cup to take place later this summer in Canada.
 
The seven-day camp, to begin June 8, will run be the first of several this summer to prepare the team for the U20 World Cup to be held August 5-24. In addition to training, the team will play several exhibitions against teams from around the world, including an exhibition with Team USA’s U20 squad in June. Late last year, France qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with its victory at the 2013 U19 UEFA Championship. France will participate in its fifth FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which will take place in four cities across Canada.
 
A defender, Gagnet has already tallied substantial time with the France’s youth national teams in previous years. Last summer, she helped the U19 French Nationals to a victory in the UEFA Cup in Wales. Gagnet played in four of the five tournament stage matches, including the event final against England.
 
In her first year at KU, Gagnet appeared in 15 of the team’s 21 games and logged more than 1,088 minutes of field time to average over 72 minutes per outing. At season’s end she was named to the Big 12’s All-Newcomer Team.
 
If Gagnet makes it through next week’s camp, another World Cup prep camp will be held June 30th through July 5th, where the final roster is expected to be announced. The team will then reconvene July 15 to begin its final preparations for the tournament in August.
