Pankey Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – On the heels of the first multi-goal game of her career, Kansas junior forward Ashley Pankey earned the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Week distinction the league office announced Tuesday morning. It is the second Big 12 weekly honor earned by a Jayhawk this season and the first of Pankey’s career.

Pankey, who hails from Middletown, New Jersey, fueled Kansas’ offensive eruption Friday night in the Jayhawks’ 3-0 win over South Dakota State. With KU clinging to a one-goal lead in the 78th minute, Pankey netted the first goal of her career when she cleaned up a rebound. The junior didn’t stop there, picking up her second goal just over five minutes later, hitting a ball from nearly 25 yards out to complete the brace. Pankey’s multi-goal match was the first of the season by a Jayhawk and helped her squad to its third-straight win to close out non-conference play.

The honor made Pankey the first Jayhawk to be named as the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Week since current senior Ashley Williams received the honor last season, on Oct. 7.

Pankey and the rest of her KU teammates will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 2 to open Big 12 play against the Texas Longhorns. Kickoff from Rock Chalk Park is set for 7 p.m., and can be viewed by visiting the Kansas Athletics page on YouTube.
