Salazar Named to All-Region First Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas senior Liana Salazar was selected to the All-Central Region First Team it was announced Thursday afternoon by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The honor marked the third time in Salazar’s career she was named to an All-Region list and made her the second player in school history to earn a first-team nod twice in her career.

Salazar, a native of Bogotá, Colombia, finished off her 2015 campaign with seven goals, which ranked fifth in the Big 12 and marked the third season of her KU career with five goals or more. The midfielder also tallied a career-high four assists to add to her yearly point total of 18, which also was fifth in the conference.
 
Salazar scored or assisted in eight of Kansas’ final 11 matches in leading the team to a 10-9-2 overall record and the program’s first appearance in the Big 12 Championship final. She was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team for the third time and was named to the Big 12’s All-Tournament Team.
 
She joins forward Caroline Smith (2002-05) as the only to Jayhawks to be two-time selections to the All-Region First Team. Salazar was one of 11 student-athletes from the Big 12 Conference to be selected to the three All-Central Region teams, which honored 33 players in all.
