Jayhawks Sign Madison Hutchison For 2014

LAWRENCE, Kan. – KU sings Bishop Carroll Catholic High School senior Madison Hutchison to join the swimming and diving team for the 2014-15 season.

Hutchison competes for the Wichita Swim Club, in addition to Bishop Carroll. She was a qualifier for the 2013 National Club Swimming Association Junior Nationals in several events, including the 50-, 100- and 200-yard backstroke and butterfly, which are said to be her strongest strokes by Kansas head coach Clark Campbell.

“Her strength is in the backstroke and butterfly,” Campbell said. “The thing about her is that she has a great underwater ability. I am excited about getting her because that is a hard work to develop in college. It can be done with hard work and diligence, but she comes in already developed in that area. I think she is going to be someone that only gets better and she will use her underwater abilities to her full advantage.”

According to Campbell, the preferred walk-on holds several Bishop Carroll records. In the 2013 Kansas State High School Championship she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.31, only behind current Jayhawk swimmer Hannah Angell. It was the same scenario for the 100-yard backstroke (56.94) when she placed second.
