Miller Improves Performance at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Chelsie Miller represented Kansas well as she clinched a 13th-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley at the NCAA Championship meet Friday night. After swimming a preliminary time of 4:08.97, the junior returned to finals dropping two-tenths of a second to finish in 4:08.77, her second fastest time swam this year.

The 2015 meet is Miller’s second NCAA Championship appearance, this year being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. At the 2014 national collegiate competition, Miller placed 15th overall with a time of 4:10.55.

“Today’s swims were better than last year,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “Last year she added time at night, this year she was able to move up a couple places and did a better job coming back to swim better at night. This is all a process of learning how to swim at a high level, and Chelsie has definitely made strides over the last year. It’s definitely good to see the growth over one year, especially with next year being an Olympic year.”

Miller also swam the 200-yard individual medley on Thursday night. Her time of 1:59.97 placed 55th overall and was just above her career-best and school record time of 1:58.37 set at the 2015 Big 12 Championship.

Continuing on Saturday, Miller will swim the 1,650-yard freestyle at 4:30 p.m. Live results can be followed at swmeets.com/Realtime/NCAA/2015.
