2013-14 Swimming and Diving Schedule Filled with Tough Road Tests

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas’ swimming and diving 2013-14 schedule will be highlighted by the second annual Kansas Classic, a three-day five-team meet hosted by the Jayhawks.

The three-day Kansas Classic (Nov.22), will be held in Topeka at the Capitol Federal Natatorium in the Hummer Sports Park. The five-team field will include Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Air Force, Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha.

“The Kansas Classic plays a big role in seeing where we are before we head into the winter holiday,” head coach Clark Campbell said.

The Jayhawks will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for one of their toughest challenges of the season. Arkansas, who was ranked 18th in the country last season and finished 26th at the NCAA Championships, will host the Jayhawks in a double dual with Vanderbilt (Feb 1).

“Arkansas has improved a lot,” Campbell said. “We’ll know exactly where we are in early February with our training, heading into the championships.”

Looking to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, the Jayhawks open the 2013-14 slate with their intrasquad meet (Oct. 3), allowing fans to take a look at what will be in store this season.

Kansas’ first Big 12 meet will be at TCU (Oct. 17). The Horned Frogs finished third in the Big 12 last season, as the Jayhawks look to make an early statement against them in the conference opener.

“TCU is starting to turn into a little bit of a rival, which is great,” Campbell said. “It’s a meet where we’re both evenly matched.”

The Jayhawks will also take on Big 12 foe Iowa State in a two-day meet in Ames (Feb. 7). The Jayhawks had the upper hand on the Cyclones last season, but Iowa State is no slouch.

“Iowa State has morphed into our number one rivalry within the conference,” Campbell said. “We’re the last remaining Big Eight schools and we have pride in that.”

Kansas’ road schedule will also include Air Force and Idaho (Oct. 12), Illinois (Nov. 9), as well as trips to Rollins and Tampa (Jan. 11).

The Jayhawks will host a double dual with Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota (Nov. 2), and also welcome William Jewell (Dec. 7) and Arkansas Little-Rock (Jan 25.) to Robinson Natatorium during the season.
