Five KU Swimmers Conclude Competition at the U.S. Open

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Five Jayhawk swimmers wrapped up competition at the 2013 U.S. Open Friday evening at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif., closing the summer slate of competition.

Bryce Hinde and Alison Lusk started the day’s competition off in the 100-meter breaststroke preliminary round. Hinde paced the twosome with a 36th-place finish, touching the wall with a time of 1:12.68. Lusk wasn’t too far off the pace, finishing 50th with a time of 1:13.56. Both missed out qualifying for the finals in the evening session.

A brief layover followed, allowing Hinde to catch her breath, as she prepared to swim a leg of the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay with teammates Sophiia Filatova, Deanna Marks and Haley Molden.

The squad managed to put together a strong performance with a 16th-place finish after recording a time of 4:18.74.

Filatova led the relay off with a split-time of 1:05.49, before Hinde jumped in for the second leg, in which she split a time of 1:12.50. Marks swam the third leg in 1:03.23, before Molden anchored with a 57.52 to close out the relay.

This wraps up the U.S. Open for Jayhawk swimmers, and closes out the summer session of competition.
