LAWRENCE, Kan. – Duo Morgan Sharp and Bryce Hinde led the Blue team past the Crimson squad, 142-121, in Kansas Swimming and Diving’s annual intrasquad scrimmage Thursday afternoon in Robinson Natatorium.

Sharp finished first in the both the 150- and 300-yard freestyle races, while Hinde took the win in the 50- and 150-yard breaststroke, respectively.

“I was really happy with Morgan Sharp’s performance,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “We’ve been working on doing a certain technique off the wall, and she did that today. I was very happy with how she swam. Overall, I am pleased with how we performed. At the same time, I also see how much swim work we have yet to do. Every week we want to keep getting better.”

Two freshmen led the Crimson squad as Yulduz “Yulya” Kuchkarova took top honors in the both the 150-yard freestyle and backstroke, while classmate Lindsay Manning took first in the 600-yard freestyle. Senior Alyssa Golden also scored points for the Crimson team winning the 3-meter diving event.

The Blue team saw top finishes from Deanna Marks in the both the 50- and 150-yard butterfly, Pia Pavlic in the 50-yard freestyle and Meredith Brownwell off the 1-meter board. The Blue team also took home first in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

“For early October, this was a good first step,” Campbell said. “Our season is so long that it’s really about the training right now. Dual meets become very up and down. We see some things we do really well, and other times we see things that we need to work on. Almost every meet is different. During the beginning of the season, there are people all over the map. We’ll take this meet and use it to help prepare us for next week when we are competing for real.”

The Jayhawks will head on the road for their first official meet of the season, when they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on Air Force Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Kansas opens the home portion of its schedule when it hosts Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
