Miller Earns Top Weekly Honor in Big 12 from CollegeSwimming.com

LAWRENCE, Kan. – It took less than 24 hours of competition this season for Kansas All-American Chelsie Miller to notch another mark in an already peppered Jayhawk swimming and diving record book when the senior opened the 2015-16 campaign by breaking her own Robinson Natatorium 400-yard invidual medley mark Saturday. The NCAA ‘B’ standard swim and four total event wins in a split with Denver and Missouri State earned Miller CollegeSwimming.com’s Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors, as announced Wednesday afternoon.

Miller received a standing ovation on Senior Day, lowering her own facility record 400 IM time with the thirteenth-fastest time in the nation this season (4:18.37). The Houston, Texas native was one of four swimmers, the only woman, to take down a Robinson Natatorium pool record in the two-day meet. Miller also took first in the 500-yard freestyle Saturday, recording a 4:57.44, her fourth first-place finish of the meet.

“Chelsie had a really good meet from top to bottom,” head coach Clark Campbell said after the event Saturday. “That 400 IM swim was big-time.”

No stranger to success on the conference and national stage, Miller spent the summer training at SwimMAC in Charlotte, N.C., and has already earned a spot in Omaha next summer for the Olympic Trials. With her performance over the weekend, Miller has four different times among the top-75 in the NCAA this season.

In addition to eight National Swimmers of the Week, 116 swimmers were selected by CollegeSwimming.com as Swimmers of the Week for their respective conferences. These selections are separate from selections made by each conference office.
