Miller Named Big 12 Swimmer Of The Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Big 12 Conference named Kansas sophomore Chelsie Miller Big 12 Swimmer of the Week for her performances through Dec.8, as voted on by the conference coaches.

This is the first weekly conference honor of the season for the Jayhawks and the first weekly honor of her career.

The Houston, Texas native finished second in the 400-yard individual medley at the 2013 AT&T USA Winter National Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., after she swam an in-season best time of 4:08.86, the fastest in the Big 12 this season. She shaved off four seconds from her preliminary race (4:12.49) and 12 seconds from her in-season best time set just two weeks prior at the Kansas Classic (Nov. 22).

Miller also posted a break-out performance in the 200-yard butterfly, her time of 1:58.58 was good enough for 18th place, as she hit the qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in March.

She scored a total of 82 points at the Kansas Classic (Nov. 22). Miller led the 400-yard individual medley finals wire-to-wire, as she won with a time of 4:20.43, a full seven seconds faster than the field.
