Anastasiya Rychagova Opens 2016 Ranked No. 45 in the ITA National Standings

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s tennis freshman Anastasiya Rychagova opened 2016 in good fashion as she was listed among the top 50 players in the NCAA when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its first national rankings of the year Tuesday.

Rychagova, who entered the rankings at No. 45, is the first KU player to be ranked since Ksenia Bukina opened the 2006 spring season ranked No. 79 in the ITA rankings.

“We are really happy for Anastasiya to be recognized for her great fall season,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “The exciting part for Anastasiya is this is just beginning. We believe she will continue develop and improve and we look forward to the spring for not only Anastasiya, but the entire team.”

In just a few short months on campus, Rychagova has made her presence felt. The Moscow, Russia, native posted an impressive 11-4 mark in singles play, while also combining with a couple of different Jayhawk teammates to register an 8-3 ledger in doubles action.

In November, Rychagova was selected to represent Kansas at the 2015 the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/ ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. She was the first Jayhawk to be tabbed for the prestigious singles field since the ITA began sponsoring the event in 2005.

Rychagova and her KU teammates will hit the courts for the first time in 2016 when they play host to a doubleheader with Nebraska-Omaha (10 a.m.) and Drake (4 p.m.) on Monday, Jan. 18 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
