Fuller Hired as Kansas Women's Tennis Assistant Coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Aaron Fuller, an accomplished high school coach and Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame inductee, has been named assistant coach for the Kansas women’s tennis team as announced by the program’s new head coach, Todd Chapman, Thursday.

“Aaron is a guy I know exactly what I am getting in my assistant coach,” Chapman said. “He played for me in college and has been my assistant twice before. I am getting someone, in Aaron, who will work tirelessly, and be a dynamic recruiter. He is a guy who will be looked at as one of the top assistant coaches in the country in a few years.”

Fuller, an Oklahoma native, spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Canyon High School in Canyon, Texas, where he led his team to the regional quarterfinals (2012-2013). As head coach he was the district coach of the year for two seasons and the 2010 Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Coach of the Year.

“KU is the greatest place in the country,” Fuller said. “I couldn’t work at a better university or with a better coach. Todd and I work really well together and it’s great that I always know what he’s thinking.”

Prior to his head coaching position at Canyon High School, Fuller found success with multiple high school tennis teams across Texas and Oklahoma.

Before coaching at Canyon, Fuller was the head coach at Levelland (Texas) High School where his team was ranked 25th in the state and claimed the district title. Also in Texas, Fuller was the assistant coach at Wichita Falls High School where he helped lead his team to the No. 3 ranking in the state. Fuller saw eight Coyotes qualify for the state tennis tournament and helped coach the team to the state quarterfinals.

In his home state, Fuller was the assistant coach at Heritage High School for two seasons and helped guide the squad to a No. 1 ranking in the state and mentored a boy’s doubles team to a state championship title. Fuller’s first high school coaching appointment was at Ennis (Texas) High School.

Fuller graduated from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma with a degree in political science and competed athletically as a member the Drovers’ tennis team, which was ranked as high as No. 17 during his career. He also served as a graduate assistant tennis coach for his alma mater. Fuller completed his graduate degree in behavioral science at Cameron University.

Fuller is a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
