Hinton and Rychagova Take Third in Doubles, Stay Unbeaten in Singles Saturday at Purdue Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Smith Hinton and freshman Anastasiya Rychagova teamed up for a third-place finish in doubles play Saturday at the 2015 Purdue Invitational. Hinton and Rychagova also posted wins in singles play at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

The Jayhawk tandem started the day off with a tough loss in the doubles semifinals, falling to eventual champion Louise Kwong and Ines Vias of Illinois, 6-0. The duo bounced back strong as they were victorious in the third-place match, topping Mary Kloss and Allison Miller of Notre Dame, 6-4.

“Today didn’t start the way we had hoped,” said Kansas assistant coach Caroline Lilley. “We talked about two things after the first doubles: playing aggressive and providing a spark of energy to get ourselves going. Smith and Anastasiya bounced back and finished the day on a much better note. We are excited to finish our time here in West Lafayette strong tomorrow as we continue to develop and work on constructing our points to fit our strengths.”

Hinton and Rychagova each improved to 2-0 in singles in pool play. Hinton bested Nicole Robinson of Purdue, 6-4, 6-2. She will challenge Janina Berres of Memphis in the final round of pool play. Rychagova topped Purdue’s Deborah Suarez, 7-6 (3), 6-3. She will play Miller of Notre Dame in Sunday’s final match of pool play.
