Jayhawks Finish Unbeaten in Singles at 2015 Purdue Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s tennis concluded play Sunday at the 2015 Purdue Invitational, with sophomore Smith Hinton and freshman Anastasiya Rychagova staying undefeated in singles action at the tourney with a pair of wins.

“Today we faced some adversity in both matches which is always a good thing especially when we continue to find ways to overcome it,” said KU assistant coach Caroline Lilley. “Smith and Anastasiya competed great all weekend and have a lot to be proud of. Our goal is to keep improving every match and that is exactly what they did throughout this tournament.”

Hinton came out on top of Memphis’ Janina Berres, winning 6-1, 6-3. She finished as the Boiler Up Draw winner by posting a perfect 3-0 mark during the tournament.

Rychagova captured the Black Draw title by edging Allison Miller of Notre Dame in straight-sets, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in Sunday’s final match. Among Rychagova’s three singles victories was a win over 83rd-ranked Georgiana Patrasc of Mississippi State.

Kansas will return to action Thursday, Oct. 15 when they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships. The tournament will be held at OSU’s Greenwood Tennis Center Oct. 15-18.
