Luduena Continues To Shine at ITA Central Regionals

LAWRENCE Kan. – Kansas senior Maria Belen Ludueña continued her strong fall campaign Saturday as she led the Jayhawks on third day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regionals.

Ludueña advanced in both singles and doubles with one win on each court Saturday.
She defeated Tamara Slijepevic from Arkansas State 6-2, 7-5. In the second round she won against Yang Pang from Arkansas 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. She defeated Lily Miyazki 6-1, 6-3 in the third round to advance to Oct. 19.

“We had a really solid day,” said KU head coach Todd Chapman. “Belen (Ludueña) and Cote (Maria Jose Cardona) played really well in doubles and Belen had another really good singles win. It is nice when our upperclassman step up and lead the way for such a young team. We are excited to go out tomorrow and have another good day.”

Maria Belen Ludueña and Maria Jose Cardona won their first match against doubles partners Aria Lambert and Maja Vujic from Minnesota, 8-2. In the second round of doubles the KU duo defeated Carla TurMari and Maria Alvarez from Oklahoma State, 8-2.

The 2014 ITA Central Regionals will continue on Sunday, morning with Ludueña competing in singles and pairing up with Cardona in doubles action.
