Jarmoc Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Redshirt senior Caroline Jarmoc was a force at the net last week, which resulted in the middle blocker’s first Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award of the 2013 season Monday afternoon.

The All-American senior totaled 24 blocks in a three-match span, good for 1.71 blocks per set. Six matches into the season, Jarmoc leads the league with 32 total blocks – moving her into second all-time with 443 career blocks at Kansas. Not merely a source for shot rejection, Jarmoc also put up an impressive 49 kills over the same span.

“Her numbers, offensively, she wants to continue to make progress on, but she hasn’t lost track of how she can help our team in other ways,” head coach Ray Bechard said. “Her serving has been really good and her blocking numbers were pretty phenomenal last week. Jar’s all about whatever it takes for the program to be successful.”

Against UMKC, Jarmoc recorded her second-career double-double with 19 kills and 10 blocks to help Kansas defeat the ‘Roos on the road. Hitting the road again, Jarmoc was instrumental at KU’s comeback victory at Arkansas. Again she led the team in blocks – with eight – and contributed 12 kills. When the Jayhawks welcomed the Razorbacks to their place on Saturday, the Canadian was at it again, leading the team with six blocks and 18 kills on a .419 attack percentage.

Monday’s award is the fourth Big 12 weekly honor of Jarmoc’s career, three of which were defensive recognitions.
