McNorton, McClinton Named Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District

Complete List of CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior setter Erin McNorton made her second appearance and junior outside hitter Sara McClinton was recognized for the first time on the Capital One Academic All-District 7 Second Team, announced by CoSIDA.

Former Kansas volleyball player Emily Brown is the only other Jayhawk to have been named to an academic all-district team twice   n her career (2006, 2007) as McNorton becomes the second.

For the second-straight season, no Big 12 setter is distributing offense better than KU’s McNorton. A business major with a 3.48 GPA, McNorton has led the conference in assists per set for two-straight years and currently holds a 12.26 – only two setters in the country average more assists per set than the Jayhawk senior.

McNorton’s 2,737 career assists are the sixth-most in Kansas history, while she became just the sixth Jayhawk to surpass 1,000 assists in back-to-back years earlier this season. The Dallas, Texas native runs an offense that boasts a .264 attack percentage, second only to defending national champion Texas in the Big 12. If the season ended today, KU’s attack percentage would break the program record by nearly 20 points (.246, 2003).

Reigning from Omaha, Neb., McClinton holds a 3.36 GPA as a human biology major and is a vital component to the powerful Kansas offense. One of three Big 12 attackers with 300-plus kills this season, McClinton leads the Jayhawks with 304. Her 3.30 kills per set ranks fifth in the Big 12, which helps her team lead the conference in the same category (14.60).

Last month, McClinton became the second-fastest Jayhawk in school history to record 800 career kills. She needed just 79 matches to achieve the feat. During Kansas’ match at No. 1 Texas, McClinton put up 11 kills to propel herself past the 900-career kill milestone (905).
