Payne Named to NCAA Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team

OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore right-side hitter Kelsie Payne was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team on Saturday night after the conclusion of the tournament.

Payne, also an AVCA All-America First Team selection, is the only member of the All-Tournament team who did not play in the title match between Texas and Nebraska – the only two teams that Kansas (30-3) lost to this season.

The Austin, Texas, native recorded 4.7 kills per set on a .362 hitting percentage with 0.7 blocks per set in five NCAA postseason matches while advancing Kansas to the program’s first-ever appearance in the regional finals (round of eight) and national semifinals (round of four).

Payne posted a match-high 22 kills on a .576 hitting percentage as the 9th-seeded Jayhawks were edged by eventual NCAA champion Nebraska in four sets on Thursday night in the semifinals.

Payne finishes the season as KU’s single-season record holder in total kills (496), ranked 17th in the nation in kills per set (4.4), and ranked 32nd in hitting percentage (.386). She is the only player in the nation to rank top-40 in both hitting percentage and kills per set.
