KU Cross Country Set for Roy Griak Invitational

Meet Notes

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a month-long hiatus, the Kansas cross country team will get its season back in full swing when it journeys to Falcon Heights, Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. Considered one of the most competitive meets of the season, the Jayhawk men and women will be going up against more than 185 colleges in the meet that will feature some of the top-ranked men’s and women’s squads from across the nation.

Coming off resounding victories at the season-opening Bob Timmons Classic in Lawrence on Aug. 30, the Jayhawk men and women carry momentum from breakout performances from several runners.

Redshirt freshman Grace Morgan will look to back up her first collegiate victory with another solid outing this weekend in Minnesota. The Lawrence native is expected to be among the top Jayhawk finishers this weekend along with sophomores Nashia and Malika Baker, who will both be competing for the first time this season. Captain Hayley Francis is also expected to compete for the first time this year as is sophomore Courtney Coppinger. Coppinger was among the Jayhawks’ top-five finishers in all but one meet she competed in as a freshman.

The women will take to the 6K course for a 1:10 p.m. start of the Gold Division race.

On the men’s side, the Jayhawks will hope to see another strong outing from junior Jacob Morgan, who was KU’s top finisher at the Bob Timmons Classic in August. Kansas will also see the season debut of senior James Wilson who will be a top candidate to lead the team at this weekend’s meet.

The men will hit the 8K course for the start of the Gold Division race at 12:20 p.m. Get updates and results from both teams following the races by logging on to KUAthletics.com and following on Twitter at @KansasXC.
