Yee named Kansas Volleyball volunteer assistant coach
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas volleyball manager Skyler Yee has been named volunteer assistant coach for the 2016 season, head coach Ray Bechard announced on Thursday.
Yee, a junior at KU, joins the coaching staff after serving as a team manager during the 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons for the Jayhawks.
“Skyler is as passionate about the sport of volleyball as anyone I have been around,” Bechard said. “Whether he’s in a conversation with someone brand new to the sport, or someone who plays at a high level – he has got an unbelievable motor for trying to learn and share what he knows about technique, strategy, and training. He will be outstanding in this role for us.”
The Overland Park, Kansas native will help instruct KU’s defensive specialists, but Bechard adds that “we won’t limit him to that.”
“I am very, very excited for this opportunity,” Yee said. “I think my previous role as a team manager last year makes it a very comfortable transition to work with this team. I can’t wait to start two-a-days and help instruct the team in the gym. I am focused on this season and making the most of my time here at KU.”
Yee replaces 2015 volunteer assistant Lucas Yanez, who accepted a position at Coastal Carolina in May.
