Rigdon’s Near-Perfect Offensive Effort Leads to Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas – Sophomore outside hitter Madison Rigdon was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading a balanced Kansas offense with 11 kills on 15 error-less swings in a three-set victory over West Virginia last week.

The Pflugerville, Texas, native recorded a .733 hitting percentage against WVU, good for a career high and a team high this season. Rigdon’s attack percentage led the Big 12 for the week, while her 3.7 kills per set ranked tied for third.

“Madison has been an efficient and consistent player for us all season,” Kansas head coach Ray Bechard said. “She had great numbers last week, but she has also been someone we can count on night-in and night-out. She is a student of the game and has a number of versatile shots from different angles and different depths. As an outside hitter, for her to get no errors in a match against a Big 12-level team speaks to her ability to make adjustments on the fly.”

It is Rigdon’s first Big 12 weekly award this season and the second of her career. Rigdon’s first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week came as a freshman on Sept. 22, 2014.

No. 10 KU’s win on Saturday gave the Jayhawks a program-best 15th-consecutive victory, while remaining as one of three undefeated teams in NCAA Division I. The Jayhawks (15-0, 3-0 Big 12) face Texas Tech (12-5, 1-2) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central in Lubbock, Texas.
