Ty Kelly Martin is a Graduate Assistant for KU Leads, Kansas Athletics student-athlete development program. In her first year, she facilitated the growth of leadership skills among student-athletes by mentoring first-year students through the Leadership Academy and participating in various KU Leads programs. She also supported the development of professional skills through Jayhawk Career Blueprint events by engaging in outreach and program development. Additionally, Ty took the lead in social media & creative services for the KU Leads team, ensuring effective communication and engagement across platforms. 

Currently, her responsibilities include managing logistics for the Rock Chalk Choice Awards, specifically overseeing the Red-Carpet Experience. She will continue to be the liaison for all social media & creative services and support key programs such as Leadership Academy, R.I.S.E., Athlete Ally, and more. Her administrative duties extend to managing office operations, assisting in KU Leads and Inclusive Excellence initiatives, and providing support to Dr. Maya Ozery. 

Since joining the KU Leads Staff, Ty was selected to attend the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar at the NCAA Headquarters in February of 2024. A professional development event that provides leadership, educational and transitional programming for current graduate assistants and interns from NCAA member schools, conference offices and affiliate organizations. 

Originally from Plainfield, Illinois, Ty was recruited to become a member of KU’s Rowing Team from 2019 to 2023 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and minor in Sport Management. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Sport Management at Kansas and is expected to graduate in May 2025.Â
